10 Things You Should Know About Baby Food Stains

There is nothing worse than ruining one of your baby’s best outfits with a baby food stain. Just one small drop of baby food can quickly ruin an entire outfit. However, there is hope. Baby food stains do not have to ruin your infants clothing. There are some simple steps to both prevent the stains from happening, as well as removing them if they should happen. Here are 10 things you should know about avoiding and removing baby food stains.

1

Always use a bib to protect your baby clothes from the baby food. A bib is a garment worn hanging from the neck on the chest to protect clothing from spilling. Often times it is easier to prevent a stain from occurring, than trying to remove the stain afterwards.

2

Give your baby smaller bites. This will help to eliminate excess food spilling out of his or her mouth.

3

If you are at home, and your baby is learning to self-feed or is just a particularly messy-eater, try taking most or all of their clothing off and then feeding. You can then bathe or wash them straight after.

4

Never iron or dry the clothes in the dryer until the stain is completely removed. Otherwise the heat from the iron and dryer will permanently set the stain into the clothes.

5

Never rub a fresh stain with bar soap (liquid is fine), it can set many stains. Avoid excessive rubbing, as this can spread the stain and cause delicate fabrics to be damaged or colors to fade.

6

Foaming shaving cream is another trick you can try. Spray on the spot (no need to rub in) and let set for 30-60 minutes. Make sure you use the foaming cream not the foaming gel.

7

Often times a liquid detergent will help in removing the baby food stain. Simply put the detergent directly on the stain and let it sit. The worse the stain is, the longer you will want to leave the detergent on. After the detergent has set a while on the stain, rub the detergent into the stain. Afterwards, rinse the garment completely. If the stain is completely gone, you can then launder it like normal

8

Hydrogen peroxide and water can be mixed together to help remove baby food stains. Use 50 percent water and 50 percent hydrogen peroxide. Spray the mixture on the stain and let it stand for approximately 30 minutes. You will then want to rinse the stain with a mixture of 50 percent water and 50 percent vinegar. After the garment is completely rinsed, you can then launder as normal.

9

Never use hot water on baby food, formula or diaper stains. The heat will set the stain permanently into the structure of the fabric.

10

Don’t worry about baby food stains. Remember, a baby’s clothes can be clean, even if they are stained.
